UB Rules & Regulations: SUNY-mandated Affirmation Requirement
Frequently Asked Questions for UB Students
- What is this new SUNY requirement?
Recognizing the impact that student behavior has on the quality of education and the health of campus communities, SUNY has mandated a number of steps that campuses must take to ensure that all students understand their campuses standards for behavior. One such step is requiring that all students acknowledge receipt of and affirm the University's standards of behavior, before they may register for classes.
At UB, student conduct rules are referred to as "Student Conduct Rules, University Standards and Administrative Regulations" - more commonly known as "UB Rules & Regulations." The Rules & Regulations are distributed to UB students at Orientation and through other forms of campus media each year.
- What must students do?
All UB students must acknowledge receipt of, and affirm, the UB Rules & Regulations - only once in your tenure with UB - before you may register for next semester's courses.
This can be easily and quickly completed at https://myub.buffalo.edu/student_apps/pw/scripts/ub_rules_affirm.cgi (UBIT name and password required). You may complete the affirmation now or you may do it during course registration. All students who have not completed the on-line form will have a checkstop barring future registration from courses. The checkstop may be immediately lifted by completing the form.
To save time and frustration during course registration, we advise that you complete the form immediately.
- If I am a new student, does this impact my current registration?
No. This only impacts your spring 2006 registration. But completing the form now will save time and frustration during the next registration window.
- What if a student fails to comply with this mandate?
They will be check-stopped and prevented from registering for spring 2006 or any future classes at UB.
- How can a student comply with this requirement?
Students should log on to https://myub.buffalo.edu/student_apps/pw/scripts/ub_rules_affirm.cgi (UBIT name and password required) and submit the form via the web by clicking on "submit." A message that you've successfully completed the submission will then appear, which you can print for your records.
- When is the deadline for compliance?
Check-stops will start to be applied to the accounts of all students who have not complied by week 3 of the fall and spring semesters (after the Drop-Add period). The checkstop can immediately be lifted by completing the on-line form.
- What is a check-stop?
A check-stop prevents you from registering for future classes.
- If I find out that I've been check-stopped, how do I get it removed?
By logging onto https://myub.buffalo.edu/student_apps/pw/scripts/ub_rules_affirm.cgi (UBIT name and password required) and completing the form. The check-stop will be immediately lifted.
- What if I do not agree to all the University's Rules & Regulations?
By completing this on-line form you are affirming that you are aware of the University's standards for student conduct. This ensures that all University community members are aware of the University's standards for student conduct and the repercussions of violating these codes. You are not obligated to agree with the policies but as a condition of your acceptance to UB, all students are obligated to follow them. We update the UB Rules & Regulations every year, and we solicit feedback from student governments and campus offices. Questions about the policies should be directed to the Office of Judicial Affairs & Student Advocacy.
- Why is UB doing this?
All SUNY institutions are bound by this mandate.
- Who is responsible for enforcing the UB Rules & Regulations?
The Division of Student Affairs' Office of Judicial Affairs & Student Advocacy.
- Will I need to do this every semester?
No. Every UB student will be required to complete the Affirmation of UB Rules & Regulations only once during your tenure with UB.
- How will new UB students be asked to comply with the mandate?
All incoming UB students will be given instructions on how to comply at Orientation.
- Whom can I call if I have further questions?
